Buses, ferries, and....buses make a travel day!

We arrived in Supetar with just over half an hour before the ferry was due to leave. I bought my ticket and got on. This time, because it was pretty chilly, I decided to try the indoor portion. On the way over the day before, I had assumed it was a smoking section with a bar...everyone does smoke in Croatia. But, actually, there was a smoke free sign on the doors that I hadn't noticed yesterday. Thank goodness! Also, there was wifi here! Hallelujah! It felt like Christmas morning in that moment! I began to check my email, respond to messages, and check all my information for transportation. Everything looked good. I had bought those groceries in Bol and had made myself a sandwich so I ate that and had some other snacks on the 1 hour ferry trip. After arriving in Split, I walked across the street to the bus station where I bought a ticket to Dubrovnik. I had about 35 minutes to wait until the bus was due to leave. Just on a side note, it's really nice to have a backpack that you don't have to take off when you need to use the bathroom. My previous ones were way too big for that!
Anyways, when the bus arrived I was able to secure myself a window seat. The bus ride was 4.5 hours, but, we had WIFI! I love when that happens. It means that I can do anything I want. I'm not limited in my choices of entertainment. I wrote my blog for a but but the windy roads and waving iPad made me really nauseous so I stopped that. The scenery going by was gorgeous, so I did take some pictures, thought not sure how well they turned out!
I think these might be for oysters? That's what they are famous for in this area.
The bridge leading into Dubrovnik.

We even drove through Bosnia. If you look on a map, you can see that there's a portion of the coast that isn't Croatia, that's where we were. We had passport control as we entered and again when we exited. That time, the man took our passports. I wasn't nervous though because he had a stack of them. And when I got it back, it had a stamp of Bosnia! Here's a picture I took at our rest stop in Bosnia.

Even though it rained on the bus, it had stopped by the time we arrived in Dubrovnik. I got off at the main bus station and grabbed one of the city buses to the main gates...I.had.no.idea. The first thing I saw when I stepped on to the sidewalk was a beautiful gate with Fort walls reaching out in each direction. It was breathtaking.

I followed the directions to the rooms, which were just off the Main Street. Men and women stood on the street trying to entice people to eat at their restaurants. I just needed directions, which they were happy to give! As I turned down the street I head someone saying "Hi!, Hey" I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out where her voice was coming from. I finally looked up and the woman told me to come up the stairs to the top floor. When I walked into my room, wow is all I thought. It was stone and had 3 large windows. The woman had lit candles that flickered on the windowsills. She had also put out a beer, small bottle of wine, and a large bottle of water in case I wanted a drink and didn't want to go out. The room was amazing!

She showed me how to close the shutters, where everything was and then recommended a few places for dinner before I praid and she left. I didn't want to leave myself. This rooms was so awesome. A room can really make or break your vacation, you know!?!? I went out and found a place to eat.

Yum, I had black risotto with shrimp, and a radler. I sat under a heat lamp where it was warm and cozy and then off I went to explore. I was craving an ice cream but not a single ice cream place was open! After seeing someone with a cone, I asked, desperately, where she had found it. She directed me and I happily ate my lemon ice cream while wandering.

Eventually, the 8 or so hours of travelling got to me so I headed back to my room. It was freezing inside, with all the windows open, so I closed them and turned of the heat. After not warming up, I made myself a cup of tea, which they provided as well, and settled in to do download and post my pictures of the last few days! I couldn't wait to explore this city!
