10 Jetting to Shanghai

We made it easily to the airport from our hotel, with perfect timing. We checked in, and headed toward security where we saw a huge line of people. When we got closer we could see there were several lines. We picked one and waited for the security guy to check our passports and plane tickets before being sent through to have our bags x-rayed. It was painless, thankfully. I was a bit worried they'd find something wrong with something in my bag. We headed towards our gate which was down the escalator in a little basement area.
Sarah went to find some food while I stayed at the gate and then we switched. We both ended up getting some pizza from Pizza Hut. I didn't see any other options besides snack food. We boarded our huge plane and got ready for the 2ish hour flight. The movie selection was great so we both watched a Reese Weatherspoon goodie. They served drinks and a small snack (a bun, a cupcake and peanuts). The flight flew by and we were in Shanghai in no time.
When we arrived, we headed down to pick up Sarah's bag, I had carry on. Well, we waited, and waited, and waited. Most of the people had left when her bag finally arrived, an hour after we landed. We headed to the metro only to find we had to use a machine. The lady at the service counter wouldn't sell us tickets. We both told her we didn't have cards we could use and she insisted. We have used the subway in every Chinese city we've been in without an issue so we were shocked by this. She called someone to help and realized that we could use cash. In the other cities, you can't. We managed to get tickets and get on the subway. It was a long train ride in. The airport is quite far from the city. We found our way to the hotel without any difficulty. We checked in and dropped our bags off. We then headed out to grab some food. It had taken us 3 hours from landing to check in and we were pooped. We walked around and found a pretty snazzy street nearby, called Shanghai's Times Square (except there are not many lights) and found a pub. I don't really want to do Irish food when in China, so we found a mall with several restaurants and chose one. I ordered a beef and noodle dish and Sarah got a noodle dish and asked for no meat. Mine came and was pretty decent, and Sara's came covered in meat, maybe duck. As she was eating she was pulling out pieces of squid and there were baby shrimps as well. The waiter came over and told us he was so embarrassed as he had told the kitchen no meat (he did this on a translator app). After dinner, we walked past a bakery and had to stop in. They had no strawberry tarts but they did have some yummy crunchy nut cookie things and a Portuguese egg tart. Both were delicious.
Then it was time for bed! The beds are super hard so I didn't sleep great, but I'm excited to see Shanghai!
