Paris!

Of all the places I am planning to visit, Paris is one of the ones I'm most excited about.  It has the beautiful old charm of an ancient city and I can understand what they people are saying! I left Heidelberg last night at 11:10 and thankfully got a seat to myself. I slept off and on and arrived shortly before 6am.  After figuring out the metro and taking 3 different trains I found myself at the hostel which was thankfully awake.  Arriving at 7 I was worried nobody would be working yet.  I locked my stuff up (for 4,50€ I might add) and busied myself for the couple of hours before my walking tour began. Since I arrived in the dark there wasn't much I could see, well and most of my trip was underground.  Arriving at St. Christopher's square I was like a kid at Christmas.  It's even better than I could imagine! A 3km walk took us past the Pont Neuf, the Pont Carrousek (a lover's lane of sorts where people put a lock on the bridge so their love will last forever), Musee de Louvre, Notre Dame (from afar), Eiffel Tower, Obelisque, Eglise de Madeline, and so much more. Unfortunately the Eiffel tower was far away but I plan to go see it soon.  I believe I'll go to Versailles tomorrow and the Louvre Friday! I can't believe I am in such an amazing city!

Heidelberg

The last of Heidelberg

I woke up yesterday to a cool cloudy day and a sore throat! I guess the lack of sleep due to noisy room mates, the germs, and the fact that I haven't been drinking enough water have all contributed to a cold. Cold or not I headed down the street to the train station and bought my bus ticket! I am going to Paris tonight! I can NOT wait!
I walked around for most of the day and then came back to rest. I bought a huge bottle of water and some fruit and met my room mates.  It's so neat how you can befriend someone in minutes knowing you'll probably never see them again.  Daniel from Columbia was staying only one night as he flew out this morning to go home after a year in Heidelberg.  In the common room eating dinner I met Jamie from Calgary and his sister from Lethbridge (this was a very exciting moment!), and Doug, Amy, and her twin from Orange County! It was interesting to hear what other people liked and didn't like about where I am going. And I made sure to ask about hostels!
I drank my whole bottle of water and then some so adespite many trips to the bathroom last night I feel a little better! Bad timing too since I am taking the overnight bus to Paris which means not a great nights sleep.  C'est la vie!
