The next day was not too different. We enjoyed breakfast at the hostel and then spent the morning beside the pool. I caught up on the blog and we enjoyed the heat, though the sky was full of clouds. Just before lunch time, a huge group of kids came in, and I do mean kids, like 16 years old. They filled the pool area, splashing and yelling. Not a good time. We decided to go back to Side Street for lunch so we got dressed and took a taxi over (it's a looooong walk in the heat).
Found this guy on our way back! Don't worry, he had a collar on so somebody loves him!
We enjoyed another delicious lunch before strolling back to the hostel. We continued to relax that afternoon, the "kids" had gone out for a few hours. While hanging out in the water, we met one guy in particular, who we couldn't stop talking about. He claimed to be a firefighter from Miami Beach who "made good investements" and had properties he used for Air B and B to payroll the many vacations he took. According to him, he would take shifts so that instead of working 48 hours and then off for 3 days, he would work 6 and get 8 off. Not sure how this works, but he gave us both the wrong vibe. He asked about 4 times, throughout the conversation, what our plans were for Friday night. We kept repeating that we didn't have any. He also talked a lot about some of the "great parties" he participated in....blah blah blah. His impression of San Jose seemed odd, as he said the place was just a bunch of shacks and not worth the day. He headed up for a nap so him and his friend could get out on the town, but Yael, who shared a room with them, told us the next day that they were in bed when she went up that night! HA....so much for all that talk! Towards the end of the late afternoon, there was a moment when the pool was almost empty, and I decided it was my chance to go down the waterslide. Jan was going to try to get a picture. I nervously climbed the ladder and shot down the curved concrete slide. HA....so much fun! It felt pretty tame until, at the last moment, you shoot around the corner and are launched into the air before falling with a huge splash into the pool. I squealed in delight, laughing under water. I went on a few more times before we got cleaned up and enjoyed some Happy Hour...2 for 1 drinks. Rum and pineapple was our drink of choice and we sat, chatting and drinking with some girls from the hostel. We ordered some delicious pizza, choosing to stay in and not go out. Then, at about 10 we decided to go for a late night swim! We had the pool to ourselves and I took the opportunity to go down the waterslide. Yael and Jan were trying to get pictures and videos so I had to keep going down, over and over again, such a hardship! We did get a good video, and I love that you can hear me laughing right before I hit the water!
I didn't sleep well that night, must have been the adrenaline from the waterslide or too much pineapple juice. At 4:00, I woke myself up laughing! And, because Jan was still sleeping and I know I couldn't laugh, the urge to laugh was stronger. I had a dream that Jan was riding a bike with one wheel, and not a unicycle, which doesn't sound that funny, but evidently it was. In the morning, I woke up I was exhausted and not rested at all. We ate an early breakfast before taking a taxi with Yael to the bus station for our trip to San Jose. Sad to be saying goodbye to this little slice of fun we'd found, but I think we're both ready to be back in our own beds...One more night to go!
