Sleeping, Tanning, and Drinking is exactly what the doctor ordered! We were grateful to arrive in Jaco. Done with the rain, we had taken a shuttle to the surf town. The shuttle, was a whole other story. Winding it's way through the valleys and over the hills at horrendous speeds. We felt really ill. In fact, I wasn't sure if I was going to keep down my breakfast. I sometimes feel a little sick in car rides, but I was seriously close to throwing up in the garbage can beside me. The guy was speeding up and slamming on his brakes while taking hairpin turns. When we stopped for the break, I couldn't get out fast enough. I jumped out and my tummy was so upset, I took some pepto. Jan sat in the front after that, though the rest of the drive wasn't nearly as bad. I enjoyed the beautiful views whizzing past our windows.
And, in no time, we had arrived at the hostel. The boutique hostel is almost like a hotel. We were so happy to finally be done moving, and since our room wasn't ready, we changed into shorts and ordered some lunch, sitting by the pool. At 2, we were able to check in to the 4 bed dorm with a fan, we had booked. The beds were all singles and not bunk beds. The room was large and.....stifling. We turned on all the fans, but the 2 ceiling fans barely made any movement. The large, portable fan they had in the room didn't rotate so only hit one bed at a time. While we were the only people in the room at the moment, there's no way it would work if more people came, or actually, for both of us. I was super annoyed by the fact that the fan room didn't have fans that would work to keep us cool. I went down to the front desk and just said I wasn't very happy with the room and explained about the fans, hoping they would be able to find us a revolving fan for the room. The owner came out of his office, and heard what I was saying. He pulled me into his office and, after much debating on his part, found us a private ac room with shared bathroom, and an amzing view, for $10 more, each. We were so excited! The owner was amazing, always checking with us to see how we were doing and we started to finally relax and enjoy the sun. Lounging by the pool, and walking occasionally into town for water or food, we didn't have any cares in the world.
Well maybe one care...sunburn
It rained, often in the late afternoon or at night, but this was ok because it cooled everything down. The first night, we were so tired, that we headed to bed early, and though we could hear the music pumping below us, it was shut off prompty at 10:45. The next night, we headed into town for dinner and found a party happening when we returned. We had bought these amazing mojitos in a can at the grocery story, but were soon doing jello shots and dancing our little hearts out.Jello Shots:
The DJ came over and taught me some salsa moves. We had a blast and when 11pm (quiet hour) hit, I wasn't quite ready to head to bed. Everyone was moving into town to continue the party so we went with them. But, the wait, for everyone to get ready, and then the walk, drained us of our party mood. On arrival to the bar, we learned we needed ID, which we didn't have, since we had shoved money into our "pockets" and hadn't brought any wallets. So we happily, turned around and headed home. Continuing our trend of a pool day, we relaxed the next morning. We had been told about a great restaurant called Side Street so decided to go for lunch the following day.
It was a really hot day and the restaurant was clear on the other side of town. By the time we got there, we were sweaty, hot and tired. But, the restaurant was fabulous and this cheered us up. We ate some delicious food and enjoyed the live music. When we returned to the hostel that afternoon, we met a guy named Rahim, from San Fran Cisco, who had been in Jaco for his brother's stag. All the guys had gone home but he was leaving that night. He invited us to help him finish his bottle of Grey Goose Vodka, which he couln't take with him. We really enjoyed his compnay, and he's offered for us to come and visit in San Fran, with him as our tour guide! Sweet! Three vodka pineapple juices later and I was feeling in fine form. When the room started spinning, I guzzled some water and was good to go!
We had booked a resort for 3 nights for some relaxation but decided to return to this same spot at the end of the week. I'm pretty good at "fighting" for what we should have and Jan's pretty good at asking for stuff after, which has worked out perfectly. She went and talked to the owner about booking again and he was awesome enough to give us the same rate for a private room...and warned us we would hate anywhere else. He also told us, we could come back early if we hated it! haha If he only knew!
