I started my day with some lovely roomies from my hostel. We headed into the centre of Amsterdam together on the metro. I had planned a walking tour with some of the people I had met in Brussels and they went off to see Anne Frank's house. Unfortunately it was a windy cold day here and I could not believe my luck would be to walk in it for hours....luckily I had a new scarf to keep me warm! Meeting the group at Dam Square I was pleasantly surprised to find several people I knew on the same tour. My guide, Lee was very outgoing and hilarious. She knew a lot of information about Amsterdam and the red light district. We walked along and saw a store that only sells red things, and if you have red hair you get a discount! Totally engrossed in talking to people I didn't notice where I was until I looked up and saw a girl through a window.....duh duh duh.....haha. Throughout the day the guide threw out interesting facts about coffee shops, laws, and the Dutch. I saw Anne Frank's house, many canals, the skinniest building in Amsterdam and police walking by while Lee prepared something to smoke right there on the street. I was nervous but they are really ok with it!
After a blustery walk I headed off with Daniel and Stephanie to find a coffee shop. After much exploration of the city they found what they were looking for. Stephanie and I went to a comedy club called Boom Chicago and watched My Big Fat American Election about Obama and Romney. It was quite entertaining! It was put on by 3 American actor/comedians who live here in Amsterdam.
Tomorrow I am going to see a free concert, rent a bike and possibly see Anne Frank's house....I really need to read her book!
