My last day in Paris

Yesterday while perusing my dinner selection at the local super marche I met a girl also from my hostel. She was from Germany and I invited her to come and eat her supper with me. As often happens in hostels, we met with some other people, chatted the night away and went our separate ways. As luck would have it, we ran into each other this morning at breakfast. It turns out we were going to the same part of Paris so I asked if she would like to take the Metro together. In this hostel you must rent lockers when you need to store your bags and since she was checked out to stay with a friend living in Paris she went to use one. Unfortunately, the lockers were all rented and so I offered for her to leave her bag in my room.

Off we went to start our day. After arriving on L'Isle de Cite she helped me find the Conciergerie, the prison where Marie Antoinette and many others were kept before being beheaded.  It was closed...for renovations.....starting today! Sigh.  Fatima, who has been to Paris numerous times offered to show me around. How lucky was I to have my very own tour guide. So together we explored the city. Starting at L'Isle de Cite we meandered to Pompino,  a modern museum that doesn't fit the view of Paris.   Taking the Metro to Montmartre we climbed our way to Sacre Coeur and back down where we drank fresh green tea in a cafe. Shopping around the Opera house, we enjoyed the equisite decorations covering the building famed from The Phantom of the Opera. Getting the Metro to explore the Quartien Latin, we stopped so I could have a crepe and Fatima could have an eclair. She bought a traditional macaroon and broje it in half so I coukd try my first one! We discovered a beautiful park where we could enjoy the view of Notre Dame and enjoy our treats. Walking to the Pantheon, we took pictures of old walls and vines climbing beatiful facades. Browsing the Rue Muggtart we found a bakery where I bought a rasberry tart, yum.  It was an amzing adventure. And my feet are reminding me of the many kilometers walked today. It was worth every step to see the beautiful city one last time and to make a wonderfuk new friend.

Returning to the hostel we spent some time visiting with my room mates, one of whom is also going to Brussels and then Amsterdam! It will be nice to know someone in the same place!

I am so glad to have had such a wonderful week exploring in Paris and meeting such wonderful people. I look forward to my next city and the explorations I have ahead of me.
