La Playa

Finally it is beach time! We all woke up early in the dorm in preparation for the beach. We walked past a street shop selling breakfast and decided to stop and have some food! It was delicious! Yucca (kind of like a turnip), pork in sauce, and coleslaw were served on a banana leaf. I still can't believe how good it was.
Isn't it pretty???
After this we negotiated with a couple of taxi drivers to get to the beach. We settled on $250 cordobas which is about $12.50 canadian. The six of us packed into the taxi and were on our way! Wondering how we fit in the tiny Kia car? Four in the back, Jan sat on my lap, and 2 in the front with one sitting on the other's lap. It's ok, this is allowed in Nicuragua! In no time, we were passing farms and homes and getting closer to the water. When we finally arrived, we found a nice spot on the beach and settle in.
Soon, it was so hot that it wasn't possible to stay seated outside. We found a little beach restaurant and ordered some drinks. Sitting under the thatched roof and listening to the waves, was amazing...and the breeze was wonderful!
We weren't there too long when everyone was ready to go. (Everyone but me!) But, soon enough I will be in Nicuragua's caribbean island, enjoying the beaches all day.
We took the bus back, instead of a taxi. When we arrived back in Leon, we walked the 15 minutes to the hostel. It was extremely hot, but I loved looking at the architecture/sights as we went by.

Jan needed to do some laundry, and so did I. So, we grabbed our clothes and headed to the laundromat and then decided to eat a protein bar to tie us over until dinner as it was already 3:30. We hung our clothes to dry and relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful courtyard at the hostel.

I was so excited to have street food for dinner. On one section of street, there was a whole row of vendors, who I had been eyeing up every night, making food on portable grills. They had kebobs, and all sorts of local treats and meats. Tonight, there weren't too many but there was one, which was enough!

Jan doesn't like food that hasn't been in the fridge, so here's what she ate:
Haha...we went to a Cuban restaurant for her to eat. This is where I learned that Mojitos taste better blended!
I LOVE Mojitos but these were amazing! After a great night out, I headed back to the hostel, and our private room! What a great day!
