Up, up and away

It's been a long day of airports and travel. I haven't yet reached my destination but I'm fairly close, I hope. I arrived early at the airport which gave me time to answer some emails and catch up with some people before my trip. When I boarded the plane, I was dismayed to find that it was tiny. Only 2 seats on each side of the aisle. In my experince, these planes tend to be bumpy and uncomforatble. I didn't notice if it was, as for the first time in many years, I chatted with the person sitting next to me. Usually, I avoid chatting with people on planes, preferring to read, listen to music, or sleep. However, this man was so interesting and was a big fan of travel as well. He lives in Jackson, Mississippi and was in Calgary for business. We chatted about places we'd both been to and he gave me some tips for places I'm hoping to still see. What a nice change! The flight flew by and I made a new friend! Even the flight attendant commented how nice it was to see two people talking to each other. She said nobody does that anymore. The man, named Chris, gave me his card and said he'd be happy to make some recommendations for some of the cities I'd like to see in the U.S. What a great start to my adventure.
The layover in the Houston airport went by slowly and I couldn't wait to board. After travelling by shuttle to Terminal E, I found my gate and checked out the food choices so I could take something to eat on the plane for my dinner. Not much but fast food but I bought a salad with chicken so at least I'd get some veggies! My phone needed to be charged and I was lucky enough to find an empty spot at a charging station. However, it was empty for a reason. It didn't work...sad! Someone left their seat by a wall charger and I snagged that spot quickly. After sitting there for an hour or so, they made an announcement that our gate had changed. I made the long, long walk to the other side of the terminal to find it packed with people. I was still able to find a seat and enjoyed people watching and eavesdropping on some American women. The flight was slightly delayed but I'm finally on board and an hour and a half into the flight. I'm starting to feel nervous about the unexpected in this next adventure. I know that it will all be good but the suspense is making me slightly anxious. In a couple of hours I will have arrived and I'll feel better about finally being at my destination! At least I hope so.
I can't wait to meet up with Jan and start seeing Nicuragua!
Here's some beautiful sunset pictures from the air:
You can't tell from the pictures, but the sky was quite red! Hopefully, I'll have some excitetment to report tomorrow! I'm meeting Jan at a bus station in Managua...wish me luck!
